Platys Potamos or Wide River

Platys Potamos (or Wide River) is one of the longest rivers in Crete fed by the waters of the Northeast Kedros Mountain and the Valley of Amari. Its exit is located in Agia Galini beach, South Rethymnon.

Initially, the river gets watered by Amari valley and later joins thte ributary Ligiotis flowing in the Gorge Smiliano, starting near Gerakari. Near the village Chordaki there is a beautiful arched bridge. There are several ponds and small waterfalls surrounded by huge plane trees. There is is another arched bridge nearby, under which you can swim.

The river continues its course to the beach of Agia Galini.
